Advanced Network & Services, Inc. (ANS) was formed in September of 1990 as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing education by accelerating the use of computer networking applications and technology.

From 1990 to 1995 it helpded to build the backbone of the Internet, and in 1995 ANS sold its assets and operations to AOL. In 1996 and beyond ANS became a philanthropic organinization creating ThinkQuest, The National Tele-Immersion Initiative and funded many other educational programs.

Since 1996, ANS has chosen to fund programs in other organizations that meet our criteria and further our goals rather than directly manage and staff our own programs.  We expect that ANS will stop operating during 2008 and be formally closed down by the end of 2008.
