

David:I'm not familiar with any mailorder sites, but my sailboat buyer's guide lists a number of handheld GPS systems which vary in price from $200 to $500. I still need to do a bit more research on this, but the optimal system would need to provide information about how many and what satellites it is seeing. I also need to investigate how to objectively rate a particular location considering that satellites are moving in and out of range; reception seen at one location may appear different from another not because of obstruction issues, but because satellites may have moved out of range during the time the GPS unit was being moved between locations!
We may be able to obtain a couple of handheld GPS units at Advanced Network & Services for loan to CSG sites. However, if any of the CSG contacts have boats or know someone who owns a boat, they may already have access to a handheld GPS system ...
