ThinkQuest Scholarship Notice!

This is a notice to all individuals who were awarded a ThinkQuest scholarship in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 or 2000 under the ThinkQuest Rules. If you have not claimed your scholarship in full, and do not take steps to claim it by September 30, 2007, your scholarship may terminate. Please read this notice carefully if you have not claimed in full a ThinkQuest scholarship awarded to you from 1996 through 2000.

The ThinkQuest scholarships awarded from 1996 though 2000 were awarded by Advanced Network & Services, Inc. ("Advanced"), a charitable organization that is independent of the Oracle Education Foundation, the sponsor of ThinkQuest since 2001.

All ThinkQuest scholarships awarded by Advanced from 1996 though 2000 must be used on or before December 31, 2008, either as tuition for the winner to attend a qualified educational institution or as a payment for an education-related expense approved by Advanced.

In order to claim all or part of an unpaid ThinkQuest scholarship awarded from 1996 through 2000, a scholarship winner must complete the NOTIFICATION OF INTENT form below or send Advanced an email with the information on the form, addressed to scholarships@advanced.org, not later than 12 midnight New York time (Eastern Daylight Time) on September 30, 2007. If you do not receive a confirming e-mail within thirty days of sending the notification, please send an email to scholarships@advanced.org requesting assistance.

The NOTIFICATION OF INTENT to use a ThinkQuest scholarship must be received by September 30, 2007. In filling out this form, the student should:

State the winner's name at the time of the Award and current name if different (due to marriage etc.), current address, current daytime telephone number (if any), current evening telephone number (if any), current preferred address for future email communications, and an approximate amount the student expects to use prior to December 31, 2008, and
State that the winner "agrees to notify Advanced Network & Services, Inc. promptly in the event of a change of name or address, telephone number, or preferred email address occurring on or before December 31, 2008”, and
State that the winner "intends to provide Advanced Network & Services, Inc., on or before October 31, 2008, with the final scholarship information concerning tuition or other education-related expenses sufficient for Advanced Network & Services, Inc. to determine whether the tuition or other expenses are eligible to be paid with scholarship funds.” Advanced will then distribute the approved amounts within 60 days.

Any scholarship winner who fails to provide this NOTIFICATION OF INTENT to use a ThinkQuest scholarship on or before September 30, 2007, or who fails to provide the additional required information on or before October 31, 2008 (item 3 above), will ordinarily be deemed to have declined his or her scholarship.

The dates and actions are summarized below:

September 30, 2007 - Let us know your coordinates and intent to use the scholarship and how much. We need this data for reserve fund planning. You can do so by using this form.
October 31, 2008 - Send the bills so we have 60 days to determine validly and pay approved amounts.
December 31, 2008 – Last date for payment of scholarships.

If a scholarship winner wishes to take affirmative steps to decline his or her scholarship, he or she is urged to do so by notifying Advanced in writing, also by email addressed to scholarships@advanced.org. Each scholarship winner who notifies Advanced in order to decline a scholarship is urged to nominate a ThinkQuest organization (regional, national or international) to receive the scholarship monies to be used for future ThinkQuest Awards for other students.

The time and conditions of payment of ThinkQuest scholarships awarded from 1996 through 2000 remain subject to the determinations of Advanced, and Advanced retains discretion concerning the use and disposition of all scholarships that are declined under this notice or otherwise.

This announcement has been posted on Advanced's behalf, as a courtesy extended by Oracle Education Foundation. Oracle Education Foundation assumes no responsibility for the administration of ThinkQuest scholarships awarded prior to 2001.
